An unnoticeable, transparent - natural
lens is placed just behind the coloured
part of the eye. This lens is very
transparent so that we see the pupil in the
colour of black. This lens reflects the
lights which are received by the eye on a
layer of nerves and it must be definitely
transparent so that the light can reach
nerves. When there are defects on this
lens, it causes sight problems and should
be replaced by artificial lenses.
IS THERE ANY TESTS NEEDED?
Various tests should be performed in
order to decide which lens is suitable for
your eye. There are monofocal and trifocal
lenses for different types of visual defects.
You need to decide this with your surgeon together.
HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE?
Local (topical anaesthesia) will be used with drops. The operation takes 15 minutes for eacheye and you won’t be hospitalized. You can go home when you feel alright. Lenses can be easily replaced. This means that at some point you can switch to a multi or trifocal lens if you have problems with presbyopia.
DOES THIS SURGERY REQUIRE AN OVER NIGHT STAY IN HOSPITAL?
No, lens replacement surgery does not require an over night stay in hospital. The surgery takes around 15 minutes per eye and is painless.
WHAT SHOULD I KNOW POST-OP?
After surgery you should ensure not to get your eyes wet for the first 5 days. The lens replacement will last a lifetime. The eye drops you were provided with should be used regularly for 1 month following the surgery.
POST-OP PERIOD
You can shower, keeping eyes dry over the first 4 days.
